Introduction to Windows

If your windows are worn out, difficult to open, drafty, not double-glazed, or just out of date then it may be time for an upgrade. We at RGS, as professional renovation contractors, can install many different manufacturer’s windows but we recommend Lindsay as they are a leader in the industry and are located about 45 minutes south in Union, Missouri. Unlike many other manufacturers, they are building a window for the Saint Louis climate, as we all know the vast differences in our weather day in and day out. We are proud to use a manufacturer that builds its windows for the region we work in. Windows may not last forever but if properly maintained they will last for at least 20 years. When selecting a new window there are some features you should be looking for and they are:

  • Energy Efficient Glass - Energy efficient glass reduces the transfer of heat and cold air which makes windows highly thermally insulated which will improve the energy efficiency of your home.

  • Insulated Frames - Vinyl Windows with insulated frames are much more energy efficient than windows that are wood, hollow vinyl, or aluminum.

  • Energy Star Approval - The NFRC (National Fenestration Rating Council) has strict guidelines windows must meet to be considered energy efficient.  Only the best-performing windows receive Energy Star ® approval by the U.S. Department of Energy for outstanding energy efficiency.

  • Aesthetic appeal - Since you will have to look at your new windows for a long time to come, it is important that they are visually appealing on the interior and exterior of your home.

  • Reliable Warranties - Just like every industry, window manufacturers offer a variety of warranties.  Some manufacturers have warranties as short as 5 years but most are 10 years, and a few select manufacturers offer a ten-year warranty.

  • Reduce Energy Bills

  • Improve Overall Comfort of Home

  • Decrease Exterior Sounds

  • Boost Curb Appeal and Add Value to Your Home

Introduction to Window Screens

Window screens are designed to cover the opening of a window and to keep leaves, debris, insects, birds, and other pests from entering your home.  Without blocking airflow, window screens can help protect your heavily invested windows.  Professionals recommend replacing your screens every ten years and you know it is time for an upgrade when you start noticing visible damage such as rust spots, holes, or broken frames.  At RGS, we offer a few different types of window screens such as your standard fiberglass screens, aluminum, and solar screens.  Some of the benefits of new window screens are:

  • Protection from the Elements and Pests Alike

  • Fresh Airflow

  • Reduces Sunlight and Heat Gain
